When a homeowner needs to have their roof replaced, they often ask their contractor when is the best time of the year to have their roof replaced? Simply put, you can have your roof replaced anytime throughout the year. However, with each season comes their advantages and disadvantages. United Home Painting & Roofing will share what each season offers when replacing a roof.
Replacing a Roof in Spring
Spring is one of the best times of the year to replace the roof. The temperatures are ideal to work in and a roofing contractor isn’t that busy. It is easier to schedule a roofing replacement in the spring than during the rest of the year. However, one of the downsides of replacing a roof in the spring is that the weather is less predictable. Depending on the time that roof that is being replaced, some materials require a warmer temperature and of course, you do not want to replace a roof when it is raining. Other than spring rains and the cooler temperatures, spring is a great time of year to replace a roof.
Replacing a Roof in the Summer
Summer isn’t a bad time to replace a roof either. Summer has more predictable weather, less rain and it is nice and warm. Summer is often a bit busier time for roofing contractors. For some reason, roofing problems seem to show up during the summer. As a result, it can be hard to schedule in a roof replacement. Additionally, the summer can bring in some intense heatwaves that make replacing a roof hazardous for the crew. Along with posing harm to the roofing crew, high heat can soften asphalt shingles. Depending on the type of roof you have, roof replacement during the summer may or may not be ideal, particularly during the mid or late summer season.
Replacing a Roof in the Fall
By far fall is one of the busiest times of year for roof replacements. Often summer roofing problems are put on hold until the fall and a number of homes are scheduled to have their roof replaced. Along with being busy, fall provides a moderate temperature and it doesn’t rain as much in the fall. The fall is perfect for tearing off an old roof and replacing a new roof. One of the challenges of having your roof replaced in the fall is the scheduling as most contractors may already be pretty booked.
Replacing a Roof in the Winter
It is often said that you should not replace a roof in the winter. In climates prone to snow and ice, you do not want to remove an old roof and expose the inside to the elements. Depending on the type of roof you have chosen, cold temperatures might not work well with some roofing materials. However, this doesn’t mean you cannot have your roof replaced in the winter. If you need immediate roof replacement, a skilled contractor can still replace your roof. Even if it is not an emergency, you can talk to your roofing contractor and see if they feel they can replace your roof this winter. With their experience they can better help ensure a safe and proper roof replacement even in the winter.
